Nothing rhymes with elephant by Jon Gadsby; illustrated by Grant MacDonald (2013)

Nothing rhymesCreating great rhymes that scan and read well is a skill that should not be underestimated. Jon Gadsby has succeeded with flair in Nothing rhymes with elephant.

Poor old elephants get a raw deal. How on earth can they write poems about themselves when they can find no words to rhyme with “elephant?” There are some excellent comparisons with animals who have it easy. “And a rabbit out of habit shares a carrot with a parrot, and a seal can make a meal upon an eel and have its fill.”

Wonderful to read, with great illustrations and genius examples of rhyme, this is perfect for an audience of all ages.

  1. This sounds so fun- sadly it doesn’t seem to be available in the U.S. I’ll hope it’s a big hit and it makes it’s way across the sea eventually!

  2. This is bad news Jessie! My one reviewing rule was to only include books still in print. ‘Nothing…’ was published last year so I assumed it was available. Major librarian demerit points for me! One NZ supplier (www.wheelers.co.nz) is showing copies but another says ‘out of print’. I refuse to fail at my rules this early in my blogging career, will investigate further and get back to you. The elephants WILL take over the world!
