Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal; illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld (2009)

If, like me, you can never quite see the “old lady” in this ridiculous illusion image, then Duck! Rabbit! might at first glance appear to be your worst nightmare. Let me assure you that you WILL be able to see both the duck and the rabbit. In fact, let me give you an additional illustration from the book to help you on your way…

Duck! Rabbit! is a fabulously clever visual treat that will have your audience entranced. In fact it’s so great, they will almost certainly clamour for a repeat performance.

The concept is simple, all through the book an argument takes place about whether the animal in question is a duck or a rabbit. Can you hear quacking? Nope I’m pretty sure it’s a rabbit sniffing, that sort of thing. Simple, but very clever. I read this to a school class of seven-year-olds who absolutely loved it and so do I!

Check out Duck! Rabbit! at Auckland Libraries.

Or buy Duck! Rabbit! from Fishpond.
