A birthday for cow! by Jan Thomas (2008)

So today is a bit of a tricky ol’ day for me. It’s an anniversary that has the potential to not be so great. I considered finding the most heart-wrenching, guaranteed-to-make-you-cry picture book I could find in honour of this occasion. Instead I’ve decided that on a day on which it would be very easy to be sad, we’re going to celebrate with one of the wackiest picture books I’ve read for a long time.

For cow’s birthday, his sensible friends, Pig and Mouse decide to make him a birthday cake. At every turn the truly fabulous, Duck suggests the addition of… a turnip. When Cow arrives he is very excited, mostly about… the turnip!

Short and punchy and perfect for a preschool story-time session about parties. Thank you Jan Thomas for creating a picture book that brought a huge smile to my face.A birthday for cow
