Mucky duck by Sally Grindley; illustrated by Neal Layton (2003)

In spite of not reading this book for about six years, as soon as I collected it from the library today, in my head popped the phrase, “O you Mucky Duck.” Now that’s a refrain!

Mucky Duck is supposed to be white, but due to her passion for all things mucky, she ends up very many different colours.

“Mucky Duck liked painting. Dipping and sponging, squirting and splattering.

O you Mucky Duck!”

Chocka block with lovely repetition and fabulous verbs, this a top choice for a preschool storytime session.

Check out Mucky Duck at Auckland Libraries.
