Ribbit! by Rodrigo Folgueira; illustrated by Poly Bernatene (2012)

Confused animals make for some great picture books and Ribbit is no exception.

One morning, a pond of frogs discover an unusual visitor, a pig. Not only is this pig randomly sitting in their pond, but he introduces himself by saying, “Ribbit!”. News of this oddness spreads and all the animals come to see what’s going on.

The frogs are highly unhappy with the situation, and after much arguing decide to visit the wise old beetle who will know what to do. All the animals head off, leaving the confused pig all alone. The beetle’s advice proves very accurate, “Maybe,” said the wise old beetle, “he just wanted to make new friends.”

The animals in the story are an absolute delight.
