The Queen’s hat by Steve Antony (2014)

Lovers of London, have I got a picture book for you! (That’s mostly you I’m talking to Mum). Bristling with Beefeaters and corgis, palaces and towers, The Queen’s hat is a rollicking delight.IMG_1147

A very sprightly Queen is off to visit a special person when a gust of wind rudely picks up her hat and sends it high into the air. The Queen (and her entourage) dash from one well-known London location to the next trying desperately to recover the escaped head-wear.

The red white and blue (and black) colour-palette and crisp architectural drawings of London’s sites, make for a visually excellent story. With lots of swishing, swooshing and soaring, the language is delicious.

A truly excellent picture book.

Check out The Queen’s hat at Auckland Libraries.
