All aboard! by Rebecca Kai Dotlich; illustrated by Mike Lowery (2014)

My nephews, (train fanatics from way back) were kind enough to be my guinea pigs for All aboard. We spent a long time following the track on the endpapers, which beautifully depict the events of the book.

There is a fabulous rhythm to the story. “Who wants to ride aboard a train? A train that rumbles through the rain, and into the fog, and under the moon… Hop on! The train is leaving soon.”

We follow the train as it travels through prairies, ghost towns, and over mountains. With cute comic-style IMG_1198illustrations, and a topic that has a huge fan-base, this is a preschool read-aloud winner.

  1. Thank you for spotlighting All Aboard! Lucy!! So happy that you like it. My twin grandsons (3 yrs old) are also train lovers. So many little ones are fascinated by trains, and I guess I always have been, too. Glad I found your blog! Rebecca
