Maple by Lori Nichols (2014)

I love Maple. As a fellow noisy person, she has instantly made it to our inner circle of friends (you’re all included as well of course).

Maple loves her name. “When she was still a whisper, her parents planted a tiny tree in her honor!” So good, so darn cute.

Maple and her namesake grow together. Being of the noisy variety, Maple is regularly sent outside to play, and her tree never complains about the ruckus.IMG_1227

One day, a surprising event is followed by an even more surprising event. Maple becomes a big sister, a very good big sister at that. And when Maple’s younger sister is noisy, you guessed it, they head out to visit Maple’s tree-friend who dances for them both.

The illustrations and feel of this delightful story match so perfectly, it’s one of the special ones.

Check out Maple at Auckland Libraries.
