Sam and Dave dig a hole by Mac Barnett; illustrated by Jon Klassen (2014)

Having been somewhat picture book obsessed for the past five months, I was quite proud of myself today. I picked up this gorgeous book, and could tell it was published by Walker books just by the feel of the cover! I know that sounds ridiculous, but they just use such nice paper. Did someone say picture book whisperer?

“On Monday Sam and Dave dug a hole.” The hole gets bigger and bigger and they find nothing. What’s hilarious is that off camera there is all sorts of excitement happening. Every time Sam and Dave come within sniffing distance of amazing-ness they decide to start digging in a different direction.

The illustrations are fabulous, the layout and design so clever. This is a very fun picture book that willSam and Dave simultaneously fascinate and bewilder your audience.
