Snip snap, alligator! by Mara Bergman; illustrated by Nick Maland (2013)

Writer’s block. I’m not kidding, I’ve sat staring at the screen for ages with nothing to say. Post-halfway blues perhaps? Forgive me a sub-standard review today, I’m going to fall back on a favourite rescue technique and break out the bullet points.

I liked the:

  • Giant creeping alligator
  • Delightfully frightened children who take matters into their own hands
  • Bundles of snip snapping and slithering
  • Magic language, “The alligator’s eyes were flashing. The alligator’s teeth were gnashing as tables and chairs and piano went crashing.”
  • Yelling

IMG_1381[1]Yup that’ll do.

Check out Snip snap, alligator! at Auckland Libraries.

Or buy Snip snap, alligator! from Fishpond.

  1. Great review! If only all writers’ blocks manifested as such… And yes, the language is magic. Looking forward to tomorrow’s, no matter how many bullet points you have to use, if any.
