Jonathan & Martha by Petr Horacek (2012)

jonathan and marthaAre we all feeling romantic on this lovely Valentine’s day? I sure hope so because I’m bringing you a slightly unconventional love story, complete with amputated limbs (sort of).
On one side of a tree lives lonely Jonathan. On the other side of the tree lives lonely Martha. Enter cupid’s arrow in the form of a juicy pear.

“Jonathan nibbled from the left. Martha nibbled from the right. IMG_1391They nibbled and they nibbled. And this is how they met!”

These two wacky worms decide to fight and end up knotted together. I guess you could describe them quite literally asĀ inseparable. They learn to share and start to enjoy themselves until a hungry bird enters the picture and bites off their tails. In spite of being free to head off in separate directions, they decide to stay together because it’s just so much better that way!

A very sweet, if unexpected love story.
