Farewell Floppy by Benjamin Chaud (2015)

[Published by Chronicle Kids]

Poor Floppy the rabbit is surplus to requirements. “I can’t have a rabbit as a best friend anymore. I’m not a baby. So I had to let him go.”

Small child and Floppy head off into the woods and the plan is to leave Floppy behind where he will be free to become a wild rabbit. Floppy’s not exactly playing ball (another of his many failings) but eventually he finds himself alone and tied to a tree.

The guilt is too much and small child returns to the tree only to discover Floppy has disappeared! A frantic rabbit-hunt ensues. Luckily there is a lost-animal-rescuer at work, and some lovely new friendships are born.IMG_1806

Visually this picture book is superb. Floppy is the star of the show. Leave him behind? It was never going to happen.
