Hello and welcome. Do you love pictures books? Hooray, in that case we are now officially friends!
I can’t get enough of picture books and have set myself the unruly task of reviewing one a day on this blog for a year. Editing a monthly picture book newsletter for Auckland Libraries inspired me to get sharing, but I realised I didn’t have enough space there to say what I really thought. In this blog I will be able to effuse more extensively.
After working as a Children’s Librarian for many years, I now have the pleasure of selecting children’s and teen books as well as graphic novels for Auckland Libraries. This basically means my job is to keep up with what’s happening in the book world (even though you are now jealous of me, it’s okay, we’re still friends).
This blog will hopefully be a great place for children’s librarians, teachers and parents to visit for inspiration. With a mixture of old and new, there will be something for everyone. I have linked each title through to my local library catalogue. For any non-Aucklanders, all the books reviewed will still be in print, so can be bought or suggested to your local library.

[In a very quick life update, check out this post for what I’m up to this year]
I love picture books, so I know we’ll be friends too! In my blog I try to match picture books with a holiday or observance for every day of the year. I didn’t think of this until March, so I got a late start, but I’m keeping up with it now. I’ll be looking at your daily review for more ideas!
Hooray and hello Juliana, it’s always a pleasure to meet a fellow picture book fan! Great idea to match reviews on your blog with holidays. At the moment my blogging is a bit of a free-for-all, but I may yet refine my technique. All tips and advice welcome 🙂
Hi Lucy,
If you don’t mind, I’m going to put a link to your blog onto my Yr 8 class blog so that they can see your great work. They are about to create their own picture books, so I’m sure they will get some great ideas from you.
Kind regards,
Adelle
Hi Adelle, yes indeed, I would love to make it onto your class blog. I’ll have to make sure I review some great Australian picture books as well…
Thanks Lucy. The Year 8s are using your blog as I type and getting lots of inspiration for their project!
Fantastic. Hi Year 8s! Your picture book project sounds awesome. I’m learning how to be a teacher myself this year so I might have to try something similar with my classes in the future.
Very happy to discover your blog 🙂 thanks to Lisa Allen and Facebook! What a wonderful resource you have built up – great for children, teachers and parents (and grandparents too).
Thank you so much. I’ve been loving discovering the amazing picture books in the world, and meeting new authors.
Hi Lucy,
My Yr 8s are loving checking out the new books you are reviewing each day. You should have a look at Norman Jorgensen’s The Last Viking books, if you haven’t already. Norman is a West Australian writer, and a great friend of mine. These books are FANTASTIC!!
The Last Viking has it’s own wordpress site as well!

It’s very cool that they’re still popping on by. “Hi guys!”
I have requested a copy of “The Last Viking”, expect a review shortly.
I’m sure you will love “The Last Viking”, Lucy. I’ve told Norman that you are going to try to review his book and he is thrilled.
